The research program focuses on the following four research fields: (i) design theories utilizing high-strength steel structures as innovative new material for steel bridges, (ii) consideration of new manufacturing methods and their specialties in design theories, (iii) numerical model-based design of steel structures as improvement possibility of traditional design methods, and (iv) design theory development for new structural systems using new technical solutions. The main goal of all the four research fields is the implementation of the new achievements and developments of the steel constructional industry into the basic design theories. Therefore, all the separated research topics represent significant steps of a larger research work and have in common to improve the economy of the new generation steel bridges by introducing improved or new design theories ready for industrial application.
